Format Name

Filename extension

CUT

.cut

Device-independent bitmap image file originally developed for Dr. Halo software but now supported by various other applications; supports 8 bits per pixel for a total of 256 colors; used for storing small bitmap images. CUT files reference a color palette that is stored in a separate PAL file. This allows users to change image colors without having to modify the original image file. Without a PAL file reference, CUT files display as grayscale images.
